Pawling NY

Nestled in the foothills of the Berkshires, Pawling has an abundance of country vistas, unique homes and a quaint Village steeped in history. Pawling attracts celebrities and others who seek refuge from the crowded cities to the south and are looking for clean air and clear water. Just seventy-miles from New York City, commuters use Metro-North out of the Village while others drive on direct highways to points south and north. Residents and visitors alike enjoy a dozen tennis courts, two lakes, over 300 acres of parkland, The Great Swamp, Appalachian Trail and Nature Conservancy.

The Pawling Nature Reserve is in the hills overlooking the Great Swamp and is completely natural except for the well-marked and maintained network of walking trails running through it. The renowned Appalachian Trail running from Georgia to Maine crosses the Great Swamp on a fine boardwalk and then goes through the Nature Reserve. The visiting hiker will often meet Appalachian Trail hikers carrying enormous backpacks needed for their 2,000 mile adventure.

Pawling is a rich part of our nation's historical and cultural heritage. It was in the John Kane House, on East Main Street, that Washington planned his strategies that led to our winning the Revolutionary War. Other historic landmarks include the Quaker Meeting House and the Akin Free Library and Museum on Quaker Hill.

Residents enjoy a variety of neighborhood shops, fine dining and thousands of acres of pristine green spaces for recreational use. There are year round sports and cultural events, which makes it perfect for year round living and attractive for those who spend weekends and summers.
