How Your Home Decor Could Be Affecting Your Mood

Most people never thought we would be in a situation where you are perpetually stuck inside your home for an undetermined amount of time. That being said there may be some things you can do to improve your outlook on your space in order to help the situation. Sometimes when our homes feel like they may be dragging us down it might be time to liven up the area as best you can.

How much light you either let into your home or you are able to produce in your home has a huge impact on your state of mind. Whether it is natural or artificial does not matter as long as you get the benefits. Natural light is often the most sought after of the two because it does not require the electricity to run it nor the apparatus to provide the light. This is the time to make sure your windows are clean, the drapes or blinds are light filtering and not blocking out the light. Of course you would want to make sure your privacy is protected. Artificial light will work in situations where you just can’t get the natural light to work as well as during the evening hours. Having enough light can often liven up a space in only the best ways. This can help keep attitudes bright and cheerful in what can on some days be dreary. If you do need to produce a lot of your lighting be sure to choose the bright white versions or other types of LED lights to be able to produce the best light possible for each situation.

Color often shapes the way we feel and how different types of color play into our moods is often the reason some places choose the colors they do. This also works in the home. By surrounding yourself with your favorite colors you may find that it can brighten your mood. Bring in throws and accents that feature warm color tones that can comfort you as well as keep your mood up.

Bringing greenery into the home can often have a positive and calming effect to your decor. Take advantage of the natural light you are bringing in by adding anything from a succulent garden to a tall fern, depending on your green thumb. If you are one to kill even the easiest of plants it is acceptable to bring in fake greenery. The point is to evoke the calmness that being in nature affords without leaving your home to access it.

After you have gone through the lighting, color palette and greenery aspects of your design one of the best things that can evoke joy and happiness is just one's own things. If the one prized possession has been handed down through the generations and is now your pride and joy then make sure that item is where you can see it. Being able to access the very best of memories by seeing your own possessions displayed can be some of the best mood enhancers. Make sure that the space is not cluttered and that you maintain an organization method that keeps things in order will help keep the anxiety of a cluttered space away. Simple and easily accessible storage units can keep all your things nearby but be stored in an organized fashion.

All in all you should be able to enjoy your home and be surrounded by great light, fabulous color, fantastic greenery and all your favorite possessions. During this down time you may be able to improve some areas of your home that could be lacking in some of these areas. Do what you can with what you have to give yourself the best shot at keeping your mood and spirits up!
