Selling a Home That Is Ruled By Your Pets Can Be A Challenge

If you are trying to sell your home and you currently have pets that can always prove to be a challenge. Pets leave a distinct print on your home that can’t always be avoided. Some things are able to be mitigated while others are hard to correct. But there are ways that you can try and lessen their impact when you go to put your home on the market. Potential home-buyers might not share your love of pets that you do so you need to present a home that does not scream the fact that your life and home may be ruled by four-legged creatures.

When you host an open house or show your home at any time it is important that you try and rid the home of any fur that may be hanging out. It will be a challenge so do your best to find all the hideouts that fur like to cling to. LInt rollers and squeegees can help with fur on furniture. Making sure that you keep the floors vacuumed or swept will help immensely. Another good tip is to keep a regular brushing or grooming schedule will help keep the fur at a minimum.

Making sure that any damage that your pet may have caused over the years have been dealt with as much as possible. Floor or carpet stains need to be professionally cleaned if needed or if possible replaced all together. Along with any furniture damage that may have been caused by a undisciplined puppy or kitten needs to be remedied.

WIth having pets comes dealing with the smell that they may cause. Cats have their litter boxes to deal with and dogs just have a natural smell that is hard to get rid of. Using pet safe cleaners and deodorizers can help like baking soda and natural enzymes. Make sure the litter box is clean and sprinkled with some baking soda will keep that under control if you can’t be rid of it entirely for the showing. Keeping your pets beds and toys put away will also help keep the smell at bay as well as keep the area free and clear of entanglements. Odor eliminators or even candle and air fresheners can keep things smelling great for the showing.

We all love our pets but if at all possible it can help if you keep your dog out of the way. Perhaps a crate or even a visit with a friend or doggie day care may be the best thing for both the showing and the potential buyers that may come by. A dog can be startling to some people and that definitely does not bode well even if you have the friendliest of dogs. Cats are a bit harder to deal with in respect to keeping them at bay. Do your best to limit their involvement in the process.

The best advice is to just do your best to keep their mark on the home limited as much as possible. While most people will understand it will open up the pool of prospective buyers that much more of you can present a clean slate that buyers can see themselves in.
